The widows and indigent women of Umudioka community in Dunukofia Local Government Area of Anambra State were in high spirits on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, as the Ichie Akubudike Foundation (IAF), a non-governmental organisation, fulfilled its promise to empower 10 women during the 2025 Home and Abroad August Meeting of the Umudioka Improvement Union Women Wing.
Presenting the empowerment packages on behalf of the Foundation at the residence of Ichie Akubudike, the Foundation’s Secretary, Chief Sunday Anene, stated that the initiative was part of the organisation’s ongoing commitment to providing sustainable social services to humanity, particularly underprivileged women and widows, in celebration of this year’s August Meeting.
“The empowerment scheme is one of the ways we bring hope to the less privileged,” Chief Anene said. “It aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 1 and 2, which seek lasting solutions to end poverty and hunger in all forms by 2030.”
Highlighting the Foundation’s track record, he noted that IAF has consistently implemented impactful programmes, including skills acquisition training, economic support for women, youth engagement and inclusion projects, health outreach programmes, and the distribution of palliatives to widows and indigent women, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“In line with our mission, more phases of empowerment programmes will follow, to further uplift widows and other vulnerable women in our communities,” he added.

Expressing gratitude on behalf of the beneficiaries, Lady Mrs. Ego Ezegbu, President-General of the Umudioka Improvement Union Women Wing, commended the Foundation for its generosity. She described the gesture as a timely lifeline in the face of Nigeria’s current economic challenges and assured that the beneficiaries would make judicious use of the support to improve their livelihoods and honour the Foundation’s trust.
The Ichie Akubudike Foundation remains dedicated to transforming lives, fostering community development, and promoting socioeconomic empowerment in Anambra State and beyond.
